Booking and tickets
How do I book a seat?
Use the form on our home page or the Programs page, call us at +1 (718) 555-0143, or email [email protected]. We confirm your seat within one business day and send a secure payment link. Some events, such as the Language Swap Cafe, also welcome walk-ins.
How much do tickets cost?
Prices range from $10 for a Conversation Circle to $45 for a three-course supper. Choir terms are $85 for ten weeks. All prices on our website are in US dollars. New York sales tax is added at checkout where it applies.
What is a pay-what-you-can seat?
At least one in five seats at every event is held back for anyone who wants to pay less. The minimum is $5. You do not need to explain or prove anything. Just check the box when you book or tell us on the phone.
Can I cancel or change my booking?
You can cancel up to 48 hours before an event for a full refund, or move your booking to another date at any time before the event starts. If we cancel an event, you get a full refund automatically within five business days.
Can I book for a group?
Yes, up to four people per booking for supper clubs and storytelling nights, so that each table stays a mix of strangers. For larger groups, ask about a private Cultunio evening.
At the gathering
I am coming alone. Is that normal?
Very. Around two thirds of first-time guests come on their own. Your host will greet you, introduce you to two people and seat you next to a regular. Nobody is asked to stand up or introduce themselves to the whole room.
What about dietary restrictions and allergies?
Every supper has a vegetarian option, and the nine major food allergens, including sesame, are listed on a card by each dish. Tell us about allergies when you book and our cook will plan around them. Halal, vegan and kosher-style menus are marked on each listing.
Is alcohol served?
Some suppers include a welcome drink for guests 21 and over, always with alcohol-free options. Many of our gatherings, including all those co-hosted with faith communities, are alcohol-free. This is marked on each listing.
Are children welcome?
Children are welcome at neighborhood walks, festival afternoons and choir concerts, free for under 12s. Evening suppers and storytelling nights are for ages 16 and up.
Will I be photographed?
Only if you agree. We ask at the door and give a colored lanyard to anyone who prefers not to appear in photos. We will never publish an image of you without that consent.
Accessibility
Are your venues wheelchair accessible?
Yes. Hartfield Yard and all regular partner venues are wheelchair accessible and have an accessible restroom. Neighborhood walks are graded by distance and terrain on each listing, and we can arrange a seat at every stop.
Do personal care attendants pay?
No. Personal care attendants always come free. Just let us know their name when you book.
Do you offer ASL interpretation or assistive listening?
Our main hall has an assistive listening system. We provide ASL interpretation at one storytelling night per season and on request for any event with two weeks' notice, at no extra cost to you.
Membership and payments
How does membership work?
Choose Friend ($8 a month), Member ($18) or Patron ($45). You get ticket discounts, early booking and, from Member up, the printed Journal. Memberships renew automatically and you can cancel online at any time with no fee.
How can I pay?
By debit or credit card, Apple Pay or Google Pay through our secure payment provider, or by ACH bank transfer for memberships. We also take cash and cards at the door for walk-in events.
Do gift cards expire?
No. Cultunio gift cards never expire and carry no fees. They can be used for any ticket, program or membership, and any unused balance stays on the card.
Volunteering and organizations
How can I volunteer?
We train volunteer hosts, setup crews, walk marshals and Journal contributors. Most volunteers start by helping at two events, then join a free four-hour host training day. Get in touch through our contact page.
Can I cook, tell a story or lead a walk?
Yes, and we pay you for it. Community cooks receive $250 per supper plus ingredient costs. Storytellers and walk guides receive $100 per session. We are especially keen to hear from communities not yet on our calendar.
Do you work with city agencies, schools and employers?
We run resident listening sessions, school family nights and intercultural team days from $1,500 per half day. Every project starts with a free 30-minute scoping call.
Do you work outside New York City?
We already run gatherings in Philadelphia, and we design facilitated sessions for organizations anywhere in the United States.
